With Kinfolk I, already working as a graphic designer, realised magazines could breathe and have white space in a considerate layout just as book layouts can, and that there was enough interest to put them on the market.
It’s I remember it was a mind changing moment and I think I am a better publication and magazine designer in building spreads, layouts and rhythm, after having had the chance to immerse myself in Kinfolk.
As what I, at the time, thought to be a response to the death of print, I love how this magazine detaches from quick periodicity to a slow collectable movement with considerate grid and layout design, and how the boundaries between book design and magazine design are meshed both in writing styles, photography and editorial design.
